Well Done, Panthers – you have worked really hard this half term. Don’t forget I am looking for 7 reads when I check your diaries the first Thursday back. Hope you have a lot of fun during your week off. Please leave a comment to tell me what you’re up to.

River of Change

IMG_3283 IMG_3286 IMG_3288 IMG_3289During Christian Aid week in May 19th, all the children at St John’s were challenged to make a river of 2900 coins – one coin to match each mile of the Brahmaputra River in Bangladesh. The current project for Christian Aid is to support the people of Bangladesh that live on islands in the river that regularly floods their homes. It was a glorious sunny day and we made a wonderful river in the eco garden. Thank you for your generosity. Thanks to Mrs Jenny Turner all the coins were counted and although the total is a closely guarded secret, I can say the challenge was smashed! Watch this space!

What else could we do to help our neighbours in Bangladesh?

Sport Relief

We had fun raising money for Sport Relief. Thank you to all those who dressed in red and donated £1. We had fun running our mile ( although we took a short cut! Never mind – it’s the taking part that counts!) After that we were ‘try-athletes’ and had a go at non contact boxing. What did you enjoy doing for Sport Relief?IMG_2992 IMG_2999 IMG_3001 IMG_3003 IMG_3007 IMG_3008

First Kids in Space

Well we did it! After several weeks of learning words, songs and stage directions we finally reached the day of our performance and it was great! Despite the bugs that were going around, we all made it to the spaceship, met some mischievous  androids, learnt that it’s fine to be different and made it home again. A very big well done. What did you enjoy most about being in the show?            003

Tim Peake’s Cosmic Classroom

Good luck to Tim Peake as he does his first space walk today. The Times Educational Supplement (TES) is organising a ‘cosmic classroom’ where children can ask Tim Peake questions via a video link to the International Space Station. We have the opportunity to submit questions as part of a national competition.

What question would you ask Tim Peake?

Welcome back!

I hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas. This term our topic is about space and we have made a great start designing underpants for our first topic homework. Why? – you might ask! Well it’s because Aliens Love Underpants! Don’t forget the next homework is due in on Wednesday 3rd February. Which one will you choose? Look at the fun Jacob had with his new present! I wonder what he saw through his telescope? What would DSC_0414 you like to find out about in our space topic?

Fire Engine Visit

IMG_2597 IMG_2601 IMG_2608 IMG_2621On Wednesday 2nd December Panthers had a visit from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue. We had a good look at the fire engine and sat in the cabin. We also learned a lot in the fire safety talk afterwards. I bet I can guess which bit you enjoyed the most- post me a comment!

Preparing for the Christmas Fair.

Panthers have been busy preparing ‘bird cup cakes’ which will sell for 50p next Monday 7th December at the Christmas Fair. The fun starts at 3pm. Bird cup cakes are the brainchild of Mrs Foy. We have written instructions about how to give the birds a tasty treat in these cold winter days. We are also running a chocolate tombola with the kind donations of Panthers’ families and friends. Tickets are again 50p and every ticket is a winner. We hope you will visit our stall and treat yourself and the birds. What are you looking forward to at the Christmas Fair?IMG_2568 IMG_2569
